Studio Makuko has made it its mission to create functional furniture with high design standards. Clear lines, clear shapes, minimalist aesthetics - and all in timeless black. Based on the old design rule "form follows function", Studio Makuko designs and produces furniture that pays equal attention to appearance, functionality and stability.

"We combine familiar geometric shapes so that together they can fulfil a new function: All our products are part of a modular concept and can be combined, connected and aligned in different ways."

From the idea to the design - everything is created and implemented in Germany's creative capital. Our suppliers are also based in Berlin and the surrounding area: We want to stay regional and local and pay attention to sustainability.

Who are you?

Diogo Pinelli, founder and designer of Studio Makuko. I am a native Brazilian from cosmopolitan Sao Paulo. As a former fashion and advertising photographer, I have always been interested in the topic of aesthetics as a whole

After stints in Sydney and New York, I now live in the melting pot of Berlin and am pursuing my passion project here: the design and manufacture of furniture. Even as a young man, I was interested in the subject and designed and made my own pieces - today I have made it my profession and focus on usefulness, quality and look.

What inspired you to become a designer?

Through the fascination of taking a material out of its usual context and transforming it into a product with the help of pure craftsmanship.

What does your office/studio look like?

The working environment is very important for my creative process. It is important to me to design my products without too much rigidity and with great harmony, which is why I don't have a permanent office. I often decide spontaneously where I work from. It can be my home office, the balcony, the park, the café or even the workshop.
