SIDE BY SIDE · POSTER RAIL A3
Two untreated oak rails, 29.7 cm, magnets — Vera von Laufenberg turns A3 format into wall design.
Two rails of untreated oak, each 29.7 cm long and 2 cm wide, 130 g — double-sided magnets hold any A3 poster between them, securely and without fixative. The construction principle is by Vera von Laufenberg under the Kleinwaren label; the Wendelstein Werkstätten in Bavaria produce the rails by hand. A3 brings an intimate image scale that A2 does not — closer to the book, closer to the desk, closer to the drawing.

What makes A3 an interesting format for wall design?
A3 is the format of the study print, the original sketch, the drawing. Large enough to create presence, small enough not to dominate. Above a desk, on a narrow stretch of wall, next to a window — A3 develops a quality that A2 would overwhelm. The poster rail holds the format visible without framing it.
What do buyers say about the visual effect of the poster rail with art prints?
“The rails, which are relatively wide for this format, harmoniously underline the effect of my Feininger / Lüneburg IV in colour and format.” — I. Sauermann, customer. Untreated oak brings a neutrality that takes its cue from the colours of the hanging work rather than competing with them — a rail is always less present than a frame.
How does the magnetic system work — how is a poster inserted and changed?
Both rails carry double-sided magnets on their inner faces. The poster is placed between the two rails; the magnets draw the rails together and hold the paper securely between them. The upper rail stays on the wall; the lower rail opens magnetically for each motif change and closes again around the new print. No tools, no screws.
In which rooms and on which surfaces does the Poster Rail A3 work best?
The slim oak rail (29.7 × 2 × 1.2 cm) fits where A2 would not — above a desk, along a narrow shelf, beside a window. Children’s rooms, studies, bedrooms: A3 is the entry point for a wall design without picture frames, and at 130 g light enough to rethink its position at any time.
Who designed the poster rail — and what is the side by side label?
Vera von Laufenberg designed the poster rail under the Kleinwaren label — a name that states the essential without embellishment. The side by side label connects product designers like von Laufenberg with workshops for people with disabilities in Bavaria. The Wendelstein Werkstätten produce the poster rails by hand — social design project and wall object in one.
Does untreated oak last — or does it age poorly?
Oak is one of Europe’s most durable hardwoods — dense, stable, with a grain that absorbs signs of use with dignity. The untreated surface darkens slightly over the years but remains structurally stable. An object that lasts decades and becomes more characterful in the process.
