ROWAC

The ROWAC Workshop Towel – half-linen from the Steinhude Linen Mill, Germany's oldest weaving mill since 1765, made as honestly as everything ROWAC produces.

ROWAC, founded in Chemnitz in 1888 by Karl Robert Wagner, is known for the workshop stool that found its way into the teaching rooms of the Bauhaus. The workshop towel is the first textile from the brand – and follows the same logic: half-linen from the Steinhude Linen Mill, antistatic, robust, absorbent. 40 × 50 cm. No ornament. Only what truly works.

What is Steinhude linen – and what makes it special?

The Steinhude Linen Mill is Germany's oldest weaving mill and has been producing exclusively in Steinhude since 1765. Linen is naturally antistatic, has a soft and pleasant feel, and is exceptionally hardwearing – qualities refined across centuries of craft. The ROWAC Workshop Towel brings this material into a contemporary context: honestly used half-linen for everyday life.

How does the workshop towel fit into ROWAC's design philosophy?

ROWAC has stood since 1888 for objects that do exactly what they are supposed to – nothing more. The workshop stool made from riveted strip steel was the world's first piece of furniture of its kind and was selected for the Bauhaus in Weimar, Dessau and Berlin. The workshop towel follows the same logic: no pattern, no decoration, only half-linen with a traceable origin and clear function. “Built to last” – ROWAC's own tagline applies just as much to the towel.

Can the workshop towel also be used in the kitchen?

Yes – ROWAC explicitly states that the workshop towel is also suitable for drying dishes. The combination of linen and cotton makes it absorbent enough for kitchen use while remaining robust enough for the workshop. A towel that draws no boundaries between rooms.
